Monday Morning Motivation: De-Stress, Boost Health with Forgiveness

Reduce Stress and Boost  Health through Love and Forgiveness

As we approach Valentine’s Day, the themes of relationships and love come to mind.  I will be dedicating this week to topics relevant to deepening our love for one another and ourselves.

In the video below, you will hear Marianne Williamson discuss forgiveness – how it affects our health and well being.  As women in the second half of life, we have surely experienced disappointment or have felt someone we cared about did not treat us well.

Remember that we just need to forgive the person, not necessarily the behavior, in order to free ourselves and to create inner peace, happiness and interpersonal harmony. One of the keys to joy after 50 is to purify ourselves of any attitudes or thoughts that create stress–the greatest cause of disease. Here’s a great opportunity to free ourselves of the stress of resentments.

I had a recent experience of a young friend asking for a favor in what seemed like a demanding manner, not respectful of my busy schedule.  I realize that I have been holding resentment toward her, while the only person that really affects is me!  Someone once said, “Resentment is like drinking poison and hoping someone else will die.”  While that sounds rather extreme, the toxicity of resentment can compromise our health and well being.

Who in your life have you not yet forgiven? One of my clients recently realized that the first person she needs to forgive first is herself! I invite you to join me in lighting a candle this morning–as a symbol of forgiveness of yourself or another. In my case, it will be to forgive my young friend, whom I truly love. Notice how much lighter you feel  having done so!

Please share your experiences of forgiving yourself and others in the comment section below.  Have a joyful and loving week!
