A WOMAN’S LIFE SUCCESS SECRET #2

SUCCESS SECRET TWO: “MONOTASKING”!

” Life is so big and wild when you’re not multi-tasking!” I heard one of my favorite women, author Anne Lamott, passionately speak those words. Tell me…do you remember the word “multi-tasking” in anyone’s vocabulary when you were a child, a teen, 10 years ago? Why is it so prevalent in our language today? We all know the answer to that question!

  • Information overload
  • Techno-stress
  • Endless to-do-lists
  • Fast pace
  • Doing more, enjoying less
  • Overcommitted, under nurtured
  • Caring for children, parents, friends needing support
  • The expectation that we respond to the communications fast!

email, voicemail, faxes, texts, instant messages, chats, Skype friends online

“MONOTASKING” IS KEY TO JOY AND PEACE OF MIND!

No matter how many tasks are on the list, concerning the really important tasks, for the best performance in a midlife+ brain,  try this:

  • Be totally focused on what you are doing in that moment.
  • Breathe deeply and slowly.
  • Do everything consciously (if you are walking fast, do it consciously, enthusiastically).
  • Rest your brain.Take 5-10 minute breaks often.
  • Revive your energy with a breath of fresh air.
  • Visualize the face of someone you love. Accentuate the feeling that evokes.
  • Smile alot. (see last post on smiling)
  • Take it all less seriously!

Stay tuned for Secret #3 and remember to make time for joy today!
