It is a myth that aging means a loss of pleasurable sex. Great numbers of women 50+ report having the best sex of their lives.  As women age, they are feeling more confident and comfortable communicating  their needs to their partners.

It is true, however, that a woman’s interest in sex may wane with hormonal changes such as decreased testosterone. There are other factors to consider as well. Many of them are related to lifestyle such as:

  • Stress: Life is fast. Women are doing their best to keep up with the myriad demands of family, career, caring for aging parents, community activities and more. Where is there time to recharge, take a bubble bath in candlelight, listen to romantic music by a crackling fire?
  • Exhaustion: In addition to the stressors described above women are fatigued by the additional demands of being wired: 24/7 email, voicemail, texts, social media correspondence. As women’s energy and vitality are sapped, their sexual desire can plummet, as well.
  • Routine:  As women 50+ are daily checking items off the never-ending to-do lists there’s a danger that life starts losing it’s juiciness. We can  feel as though we are just going through the motions. Loss of exuberance for life diminishes sexual desire.
  • Mood Disorders: It’s a sad fact that women suffer more depression and anxiety today than ever before. Libido is naturally decreased with mood problems.

How to keep the inner fires burning without burning out! Many of my women coaching and psychotherapy clients seek relief from the problems described above. They want to revive their sexual desire and joie de vivre.

Of course, I guide them individually in a program unique to their needs. In general, however, they discover renewed energy and sensuality by applying the  following lifestyle changes:

  • Self-care: Ask for the help of a professional. You do not need to suffer.
  • Remember what makes your heart sing and reclaim it.
  • Slow down, no matter what!
  • Be still for 5 minutes. Breathe slowly and deeply.
  • Look down on your life from the mountain top. Get a larger perspective.
  • Exercise. Choose a form that you enjoy. Get the endorphins racing!
  • Laugh: It heals body, mind and spirit.
  • Read erotic literature.
  • Watch romantically erotic films.
  • Visit a store with sex toys. Explore new tools to boost sexual desire.
  • Get into nature. It calms the nervous system and helps yout think clearly.
  • “Unplug” from all the machines for an hour or a day. A weekend brings magical results!
  • Break the routines: Drive home a new way, try a new recipe, make a new friend. Be creative.
  • Put yourself  first! Treat yourself as you would your best friend.
  • Learn about the ancient practices of Tantra.
  • Learn to mediate. Learn to meditate! It is the highest form of activity.
